Online row counter for knitting and crochet

A big, tap-friendly row counter that remembers where you were, tracks pattern repeats and can keep your phone screen awake while you work.

How to use the row counter

  • Tap + at the end of every row or round. Tap − if you counted one too many.
  • Rename a counter by tapping its name, for example "Sleeve" or "Increases".
  • Set Repeat every to the length of your stitch pattern, and the counter shows which repeat and which row of it you're on. For a pattern that says "increase every 6th row", set it to 6.
  • On a computer, press the space bar or the + key to add a row to the first counter.

Your count is saved on this device

Counts are stored in your browser, so you can close the page and come back later. Nothing is sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, resets the counters.

Keeping the screen on

Phones dim and lock their screens after a short time. Keep screen on asks your browser to stop that while this page is open. It works in most up-to-date browsers; if yours doesn't support it, the button stays hidden.

Counting tips

  • Count a row when you finish it, not when you start it, and stick to that habit.
  • Use a second counter for the pattern repeat and the first for total rows. They help you check each other.
  • A locking stitch marker every 10 rows makes recounting quick if you lose track.
